  • good evening,went down to the maori church at taumutu tonight at 6pm.
    very clean,lumpy and confused swell and tide.Was coming from all sides.
    no bites on Pipi or crab after 2 hours so packed up and will try again in morning somewhere else .
    some guys turned up and put out there predator torpedo but left before we saw them bring it in.

  • Also on the board now,out this morning at 7 am on the beach,results between me and my dad. my 2 ele’s 8.94lb & 9.08lb.
    dad got slammed by a large rig,19.80lb.then i got onto a large rig but hook dropped out of its lip when in the wash when was about to have trace grabbed.Oh well,thats fishing.Nice result for a morning .

  • good morning BF,whats the surf cond this morning ? would rather ask you than drive 15 min to see the sea has some huge dumping waves this morning.
    i guess last nights rain and wind would of made a mess of the sea and swells today .Hope to get out this morning if its fishable.

  • Beautiful fish you got there BF Well done,also what time of day are you getting these ? also what size hooks as have heard not to use to big a hook due to size of mouth.is this true as i usually use a 7/0 hook .

    Jbriggs ,how is coleridge at the moment ? we are heading up there this weekend to spin fish in coleridge in the harper end and also try luck in lake self .
    is the lake high or low at the moment ?

    any tips to fishing lake self at the moment ? what colour spinner that may assist please ?

  • Hi,personally i always enjoyed the incoming tide,usualy always got more hits than on low tide.
    but also do get alot of seven gillers in the morning up till around 9-10 am then it dies off.Put some Fresh mullet on a decent sized hook like 8 or 9 hook and throw it out about 15 m and wait for the rod to go off.the gillers there hit in a lazy way.they…[Read more]

    will try post of what it was later once get pics off kids phone.
    but was seriously tiny .they all went back to grow.the second wasnt a trev,thought it may of been something like a john dory or butterfish.

    Hey Zac, went up there but by time arrived in kai the southerly hit hard just after getting the rods out so was no chance to fish off the wharf.but kids got a couple small fish so was good to see them have a good time.

    Hi Zac,do all my fishing down at rangitata,but its died down there this year with very low numbers of fish there over the xmas period and till now so wanted to try out at kaikoura.
    i never fished there so was wanting to try to get into some different species and see what they like,eg moki and terakihi etc .

    same here,bought one and used it yesterday for first time,ended up with 28 large sized crabs.was high tide when went, but just got back from there againtoday and was at low tide. and only about 10 little ones so put most of them back .

    so i figure its best for crabs down there at high tide .

    always loved it down at the rangi,great campground,great fishing and also alot of great company always around.
    heading down in 2 weeks to finish some work onthe caravan and then try to see if some ring have come in down there yet.the whitebait has been slow down there up till now as ppl only getting half a cup from a days sweeping.so kinda poor on…[Read more]
