I think some of them are steelhead but there is also a very small population of resident rainbows in the opihi.

2 sea runs yesterday eve..kept a nice conditioned hen put the bigger jack back in..fish everywhere at dusk smelting up hard

2 more sea runs yesterday eve..released one kept one for the smoker..not big fish but the females are in good nick

Also 2 searuns yesterday eve from waimak, 2pnd and then 6pnd! my biggest yet, kids stoked- fish devoured. Lost 3 lures getting the 6pnder as she was hiding in snags

good stuff..been a good week or so for me 16 sea runs most of them released..got a nice 8lb female on the fly wednsday eve..put her back.

pretty quiet at Rangitata mouth this morning with not many fish seen, did manage to get a 3lb searun though and seen some guy get one about 7lb in the surf on a salmon lure.

on the board for 2014.Went out sat in the kayak lost a 5 or 6 pounder followed by two 6 inch trout lol.Went out again sunday and second cast hooked a perch,then a 3 pound sea run very healthy (for the smoker) also caught a few mor 6 inch trout.

4.5 pnd jack..opihi last night, released

had a fish at a local stream this evening, landed 3 browns biggest 3lb all released, plus had lots of hook ups and follow.

back down the local stream this evening got a 2.5lb brown plus a tiny one about 8 inches long, saw lots of big ones but would only follow and not take.
