cheers for that shark slayer. So where do they go?Out in the deep water to spawn is it?
Love eating rig but draw the line at doggys, and they fight (if you can call it that) like a wet sock.

went for a fish out the back of riverton yesterday.Tide was going out and it was flat as .Launched a 8oz weight with the bait launcher out about 170m 3 times and caught nothing. On another rod with a 5oz break out sinker I cast about 80m and caught 5 spotty/spiky dogfish, was hoping for a rig but looks like ill need to wait for the water to warm up a little?
smells like fish replied to the topic where are the lower reaches trout? in the forum Trout Fishing 8 years ago
I think they are sitting on the bottom conserving energy waiting for the spring .Don’t the whitebait start running once the water warms up?
smells like fish replied to the topic where are the lower reaches trout? in the forum Trout Fishing 8 years ago
yes surely there are some around?another 6 weeks and the whitebait will be around and so will trout….

the pvc is rated to about 180psi and is quiet thick walled.
I made up some ice clyinders in off cuts of the pvc pipe containing a baited hook and weight and burly tied on to a swivel and launched them .One went about 120m and one about 200m when the line snapped (I need to use shock leader or steel trace).I was only at 80 psi and 90psi.
Im keen…[Read more]smells like fish replied to the topic GALLERY in the forum Surfcasting 8 years, 3 months ago
good catch there. One good rig is better than 10 spikey dogs or red cod….

put the crab net in a quiet bay and got 6 small paddle crabs then drove over the hill to tihaka beach.First bait out 5 mins later the reel began peeling line out (luckly I had the drag set lightly).50 odd metres down the beach and a few mins later a nice rig.
used the rest of the bait up,no more bites.

yes it seems the best trigger is a modified sprinkler valve, you take out the solenoid and replace it with a air gun trigger. Its apparently 10 times more efficient than a ball valve so less pressure is needed.good for 300 350 m with a 7-10 oz weight.

[quote="fishforpot":3uxunwvi]?? I fished a few times last year with a cannon ….237mtrs was the last cast ….ended up foul hooking a dolphin lmao ..
The trigger is the key …less efficient the trigger the higher the air pressure needed for serious distance .
We havent got the best trigger , so needed 160psi for that cast , may have even been…[Read more]

na didnt see it on tv.My closest beach has a slow gradient and is usually at least 150m of waves it is shallow unless you get out the back.So i usually fish further away beaches so hence wanting to cast along way.I can cast 60-80m at a guess so been looking at options ,will see how it goes.

can you send out dead bait and use gravity ie the angle on your line to get your bait to the stopper?
