Anyone seen salmon or catching any sea run brownies. Think I’ve finished with the Whitebaiting so might be time to buy some gear and a license for this season. Will be flogging the Taieri, Waitaki and Mahinerangi as per usual.

low tide at 5am tomorrow in Otago Harbour, and its the only time i will get tomorrow to fish, what are peoples experiences fishing low tide verses early hours?

hoping to get into salmon early, as i am hearing some good salmon are being caught in the basin. 19, 21, 25lber in the last week.

time to get the kayak out.

slow season on trout, a few sea runs at the taieri mount, good numbers in the clutha, but anywhere else has been affected to much by rain and wind.

also heard a 19lb searun brownie was caught in the mouth of the leith, origonal reported as a salmon, on closed expert inspection turned out to be a trout… hows that for a lifetime fish! (for those who say phuey! i have seen some big trout in the leith)

I have never seen anyone fishing in the Leith. What method is the norm? I’ve had a crack earlier this year at the Leith mouth with a silver spoon..similar to what they use in the Waitaki but no luck.

The preferred method seems to be sardeens or pilchards under floats like at the wharfe.

Im going to stick with spinnig, trolling and jigging.
