I tried some spots around Kaikoura a couple of days ago and didn’t catch a thing. I was mainly using mussels for bait, plus salmon and squid.
Whitebait Season starts 1 September 2026 and ends 30 October (inclusive). Chatham Islands: 1 December to the last day of February (inclusive)
