You are talking about an awful lot of very good fishable water in the Marlborough Sounds. The two premier sports fish in the Sounds are snapper and yellowtail kingfish. The snapper are there all year around but in my experience you need to be

knowledgeable to catch them. There are 20 pound plus snapper caught regularly in Pelorus Sound. I have never been particularly good at it. But I have mates who catch them regularly. You need to use berley and a certain measure of stealth which involves not making a lot of noise. Fishing in exactly the right spot helps. There are many other fish species in the Sounds.
