  • Ive got them to 17kg on 2kg line, it becomes a mission to get the bait out. What sort of 1 kilo line are you using? braid or mono

  • I’ve broken all of the above many times. I think the real record is going through the ordeal of gaining the record. Its a hassel. I have around 13-14 odd. And its always drawn out and not really worth the issues so i dont bother anymore. Great for kids though.

This fish was caught in the same area as the current record, it was around 40kg. we…[Read more]

  • Using the method above by FISHFORPOT, you can land almost anything, it is the best way to fish with light line.

I would be very interested to know rdeejay what reel you are using to get 7kg of smooth drag out of. Many surf reels are not capible of this. Most species, lemons included, you wouldn’t need to go any harder then 3kg of drag.

    The…[Read more]

Fishy, i think you would be in for a shock if you went through the gear i have mate. im not blowing my trumpet with casting, as i have never done anything special there, i am a reasonable caster however and have spent time designing blanks, some of which many use, complete rods, as well as personally tested many reels. Reading back through this…[Read more]

Hells teeth man…..We had a range of about 14 rods leaning against the deck at our place for a casting day we held and there was well over $10000 worth of kit there just in the rods.
You name it from Zippies to Century’s to Zippies to Century’s with all manner of Zippies and Centuries separating all the other high…[Read more]

5 once, 6kg line. Im not sure of its specs Zac, it is floppy. That distance was an actual measure mate 158m Gave it a go on a casting day to see how the old girl was going. I dont penilum generally unless i’m in a casting comp. And there is no point in pendelum casting such floppy rods becasue they dont take the time to load up like casting rods.…[Read more]

Firstly im not taking a shot at anyone, i’m just pointing out some of the unrealistic expectations here.

I don’t use high proformance gear for fishing, infact i’m old school, i have many of the rods listed through this post, and have made many change’s to them. From sliding reel seats, guide positions, whatever. I also dont pendilum cast when…[Read more]

For a start i said you will loose between 40% – 60 % Which you do, depennding on the wind and ground you cast from, as well as wading- and i would put my money where my mouth is on that. and on the other hand about reels, my comment was on long cast spools, GENUWINE long cast spool, not pen rubbish. So with that in thought, that could mean a…[Read more]

The SLX and solaris will be around the same the the 222 should go much further, well it has the capiblity to any way. comments where not directed at weather you catch fish or not, more so at the reality of distance in which people cast. Everyone catch’s fish regardless of there distance Zac, but most usually strive for a few extra meters…[Read more]

Just from reading through these forums its easy to tell many of the people are more or less having a sword fight in a pissing contest, than casting the stated distances they believe they are. Neil is a good caster who has the technique to cast a bare sinker over 200m, he is one of NZ better casters, In my eyes top 10 of NZ and well out there. In…[Read more]

Fishforpot, what a load of dribble, just from reading your post in regards to distance its obvious you have no idea. How far are you casting bro 12 miles? 15? im thinking before you go fishing you should ring the japenese government and get the buggers to clear the run way as your lead is there way, dont want any planes flying in your air space?…[Read more]

  • Wilderness replied to the topic rods for livebaiting in the forum Surfcasting 12 years ago

That rod is not designed for live baiting, its more of a stray lining rod to be honest. Its rating is a over kill also. Very cool rod to have, great for mid sized snapper and trevs ect but not kingfish, it has not grunt and has to lighter action. The black tiger in my opinion is better suited to a 6-10 maybe 15kg tops rod. a 2kg snapper bends…[Read more]

  • put your thumb nail right at the back end of the crab, your find a lip there where the shell over laps. hold the legs down or bottom of the crab and lift the shell up from the back to the front.

Lisa i know the area you area looking at fishing very well, to be honest the hoamoana mouth would be more productive. Pilles are the go in ether place. you could float a whole pilchard on a running or pully rig. about 750mm is a good distance. or you can cut your pillie in half fishing a 2 hook ledger rig. get as close to the mouth as possible and…[Read more]

  • use a 3-4 once in calm conditions with strong offshore winds, 5 once will give you more distance in average conditions or a still day. a 6 once on a solaris is about as big as you can go, thats all there rated too. Only use them when you have a strong onshore wind, it will hold up longer and punch through it and give you more distance……

  • im not the fussiest for cleaning gear ( although its good practice ) im out 3-4 times a week and up to 40 odd hours some weeks. so my gear gets well used. I use a lot of okuma stuff. Its somting ive noticed over the last two years that okumas quaity has faded quite a bit. Cheep parts, and quite an expence for what they are. :?
