I downsized from 16′ to 14 footers. Am casting slightly heavier gear and casting further with the shorter rods . I use two rods 14′ and a 14′ 6" and being better rods I find it a breeze to top the distance I was getting with the 16footer . I dont own any 12 footers but prefer to use a 10′ off the rocks and in the sounds.
[quote="Linesman":2ava7u9l]I purchased the Veritas rod, much to my regret. Poor quality was quickly evident, and as already mentioned the guides were cheap and bent very easily. I have seen elsewhere this rod came in for heavy criticism, at the price you would think the rod would come supplied with a rod bag. Sadly this is not the case you need to…[Read more]
[quote="rig_slasher":3n1xghkn]Im fishing this season with my 16′ fin nor cheap rod was 80buks off trademe and i got another one last week for 72$
Ive landed 35lb tope and big rig, sk8t , salmon, and 7 gills on it
Never been happier with a rod.
If your gunna go expensive id just go online to get them to avoid retail which is outstandingly…[Read more]
Yeah according to tackle tactics the newer veritas surf rods also come with fuji K guides , apparently the older ones didnt. Nice rods and no complaints from me but I am casting the same distance with the same setups with a Daiwa crossfire which for its price im pretty happy with its performance. Swapped an okuma predator for it. What a piece of…[Read more]
Cliffords been much the same , touch and go . The Rig are either there with everything else or its dead as a door nail. Been very quiet down there during daylight hours for the last fortnight. Pup Tope seem to be out-numbering the spikys now.
For Rig I prefer whole juvenile crabs with shell on and legs on so they can be wrapped up the shank or trace to stop the crab slipping down over the barb . If I get stuck with massive crabs ill take shell off and legs off one side then fold in half and bind em on . The big crabs are hard to present naturally but if you can get a juicy crab bait…[Read more]
[quote="Miliwolf":2qkina8w]Sounds like you had some good fishing, I have not been Surfcasting since mid August.[/quote:2qkina8w]
Its been touch and go really and there hasn’t been much of a window in the weather . Tried again Sunday , pretty much got sand blasted between showers and the chocolate milk from the Awatere shitted up the northern end…[Read more]
Went out late this arvo with Kahawai on my mind . Gusty nor-west winds with showers here and there . Caught an average size skate on the rig rod , released that then caught a fat Red on the same bait . Banged out some pillies on the other rod with the hope of a Kahawai or two but the spikys dealt to that so was a change to prawn and mussel combos…[Read more]
Drove up and down the coast today looking for some sheltered water . I was planning to hit Rig , Kahawai and was going to try for Moki but it was rough as guts and blowing so didnt even wet a bait . Going to have to use some leave this week to make up for the poor weekend
Yeah the Rig are about. A bit patchy at the moment up here but then in saying that the crab pot hasn’t been out for a while and ive resorted to prawn. Have got half a dozen Rig in 4 or so outings all been on the average side around 100cm but good grazing. If this wind buggers off before the weekend might have a look about for some Moki.
Seems to…[Read more]
hopefully the swell has died down a bit before this weekend so I can give it a go . Going by the amount of shit washed up on the beach I would say snags are inevitable but I usually pull the pin once ive left a couple of BOS’s behind
yeah hopefully . got two small rig on friday during southerly and not even a sniff yesty during reasonable weather . I did about 250km driving up and down the coast yesty looking for some calmer water and ended up where I started lol. There was about 7 people there and 10 rods outs. There wasnt even a spiky dog landed .
On a brighter note I did…[Read more]
