indeed, im thinking a two hook ledger rig with 80lb trace, 20lb mono mainline, 5/0 hooks, with maybe shrimp on one hook and mullet or squid on the other? Is that a good setup for anywhere in the harbor guys? one more thing, iv heard rumors that loads of those bays in lyttleton are the breeding grounds for eles and rig? anyone know if its true?
Good pics Zac.
I tried diamond Harbour myself last week. 2 big hits on the paddle crab baits, 1 hooked up for a few seconds, went like a freight train before busting me off in what looked like rocky/foul ground. Loads of crabs over there got about 40 in my crab pot over a time of 1 hour. Loads of sea lice over there aswell which is annoying.
The reason I use lumo tubing is for line protection- your traces last longer and you won’t get bitten of by sharks teeth as much as you would with no protection at all. Not sure if they really atract fish but must increase your chances.
Well I guess this theard is a little old but I was wondering, are rays around in winter, at lyttelton? I have a new rod which I think would be powerful enough for rays and am busting to give it a go.

Got a few strikes, but only hooked 2 fish, one was an escaped salmon of about 2lb (which was landed, delicious!), and the other one was rainbow trout, gee it put on a great fight on a…[Read more]

Also hooked and lost one unknown larger fish, was most likely a stingray as it just sat on the bottom for most of the fight, and when i tryed to reel it in the 20lb mainline snapped. Was a pretty slow day, but some dogfish is…[Read more]
instead of starting a new theard i will just post post here. i’m looking to upgrade my surfcasting rod and reel to something like a penn powerstick, they look very good at a resonable price. But was reading an article on the fishing surfcasting page, and Allan was talking about 3 piece rods, that the top part flys off while casting. Just wondering…[Read more]
