I’ve seen someone catch two salmon within 20 mins on a heavy nymph, when the guys below him were using hardware.
He had the drift line right and was running it under their noses, and they definitely struck the nymphs as the indicator dipped.
Similar seems to go for soft baits.
Yes, well done pfe92nz. I got a 3 year monkey off my back on Friday.
Were any other ones caught out in the sea that morning? The place seemed very quiet, only very few salmon caught before 11am, and even the kahawai were having a kip. Amazing weather, it was like the tropics.
Usually below 200 cumecs its coming right. A few variables, like the silt load etc. Lure fishing can start earlier.
Check the ECAN site for levels at the gorge, that water takes a few hours to get down.
Plenty of people baiting in the Kaiapoi today.
Waimak is still dirty but there was some bait coming in at the mouth.
No idea how the setnetters went but I got a couple of pound dragnetting. Small sticks & leaves also meant a drag cleaning it.
Isn’t it good to have a few challenges in life.
Saw 2 landed and 2 lost south side Rakaia this morning.
Fairly small ones, the one I got was around 9 lbs.
There were more people fishing the north side than the south but I didn’t notice what they got.
