I saw them in the complete angler maybe 18 mths ago. I think they represent a cockabully (the the wing above the head makes them swim along the bottom kicking up sediment ala bully like) You can also get a one made by the same guys that is a small eel, havnt caught anything on that yet. The first big trout I caught 19 years ago was a 7lber on a…[Read more]

Do a search on trademe for it then click save this search and you can make it email you when one is listed ( this is how i got my copy).
Then all you have to do is wait when i did it there was one every week to 10 days. ( i bought one and forgot to cancel the search so i kept on getting emails until i did 8 weeks later)

they are the best eating IMO.
As for returning them it depends where you fish, 30 yrs ago i remember fishing in a lake near wanganui that you were asked to toss em up the bank if you didnt want them. I think it was because they were ileagally released and numbers had exploded. They can get to plauge preportions but mostly I don’t think there is a…[Read more]baitman replied to the topic salmon season 2012-13 in the forum Salmon Forum 9 years, 6 months ago

what area is the best to fish at the selwyn clean/dirty water near upper or lower huts?
baitman replied to the topic Latest Catches in the forum Trout Fishing 9 years, 6 months ago
yup thats a monster alright make you wonder what lurking out at sea.
Some of my best trout i have caught in the rakaia were caught on small black ticers.Generally i use them to fish the fast water where a toby would just plane to the surface, no current like that down there eh.
I think a trip to the selwyn is in order and give my vibrax a crack.baitman replied to the topic Latest Catches in the forum Trout Fishing 9 years, 6 months ago
Wow cracking fish, what were you using? What are the most productive methods down there? I have only fished there in the day time.

After work I headed to the upper selwyn for a look and drew a blank
Plenty of good looking water but not a fish to be seen did some blind nymphing through some good looking pools and stripped a woolly bugger under some willows but nada. The selwyn has been running to the lake for sometime now I expected better.(maybe someone had beaten me…[Read more]- Load More
