Probably better in here, then spamming the ‘latest catches’ thread.

Trilene is a high quality mono/nylon line. Good line.

I suspect there is quite a bit of marketing going on between all of the lines. Many of the lines (especially the flouros) are made by the same manufacturer and are identical products but sold under a different name.

Never tried the Penn line. The stuff I have seen reminds me of the ‘cheap bulk line’ which is quite often seen under a range of different brands. But most brands have a range of different product lines.

On my trout reel I have used. Stern extra tought 6lb. It
was a fairly good line. Caught a salmon on it.

So next I think I did 10lb fireline. But I did not use a leader and had terrible knot strength. Hated it.

Then I replaced it with 5lb Ultra green (Maxima?). But I kept on breaking the line and knots.

After a while tried fireline again. This time 8lb with leader and I started to like it. It really does need a leader to get the most out of it. The knot strength of fireline by itself is terrible.

But at Stewart island the fish would be so common that if you scared the first 3 the next 5 would still be happy to fight over it.
