Hi it is my husband’s birthday in a few weeks so I have organised a surprise long weekend away in Gisborne. He loves to fish so I’m going to pack his gear so he can do some surfcasting – but niether of us have been to Gisborne before so I was wondering if anyone could advise a good spot for him to go?

We are staying on Waikanae beach but have a car. Also any advice on what kind of fish etc so I can make sure he gets the right bait, tackles etc. Thanks heaps, your advice would be much appreciated!

Another option you could consider is buying or borrowing (library) a copy of “Fishing New Zealand: over 1000 fishing & diving spots” editors Mark Draper, Tony & Jenny Enderby. Its one of the “spot x” range of books. About $45.00 or search the library catalogue online to find which locations currently have it on the shelves.

Awesome thanks for that Lads! Got some good suggestions from here and tackletactics.co.nz so hopefully he will get in a few hours when the fish are biting.
    Cheers,
