If his location is anything to go by I suspect he would be looking for a spot around Napier.

I would start at the mouth of the largest local river, the Tutaekuri looks like a good choice.

Im orginally from the Bay but Uni student for the next few years based in Canterbury.

I ended up goin to the waimak. mouth with no luck, but it was nice to have a look round and a different place. The whitebaiters were having a hard time with the biggest amount i saw come in on a scoop net at 2 dozen and the smallest just 2.

I was back home a few weeks ago and pulled a kawhai out of the tukituki mouth but ive had reports from my mate that he had caught 8 good ones on his spinner off the esk, it would b nice to have fishing like that down here.

Picked up my first fish for the season tonight, second outing. Nice wee searun of approx 2lbs, caught & released between the two bridges (close to old bridge). Awful lot of people out having a cast too, but saw no others landed. Hopefully a good omen for the season, might be worth a look for you.

Caught my limit of 2 searuns this evening, 3.2 & 3.4 lbs respectively in very short time(1.5hrs), very well conditioned fish being thick right through their flanks from head to tail, & a nice size for eating, in the smoker with one of them at least. Both were taken on a smaller silver veltic in slightly discoloured water at “spot X”. All I can say about location is its not a notable canterbury river for searuns but I know of another 8 fish that have been taken there in the last 10 days the largest of which was over 5lbs. I took some pics but cant find the usb cable so will attempt to upload when I do. PM me for more info, lol cheers G.
