    Hi there,

I have just got my 1st boat and I live in Christchurch. I would really appreciate any information/hints on good sea fishing spots around Canterbury. I am aware that Motanua is pretty good but I was hoping for some advise on somewhere closer to Christchurch. Any help appreciated.

Thanks. I agree about Motanau I have been over the bar there plenty of times. I am not too inexperienced in a boat but this is the 1st I have owned (yee ha). How far around the heads would I need to go?

I to have just bought a boat (5.2m cresta craft) and would like to know of any good fishing spots round the Peninsula. Being close the Akaroa or Lyttleton heads would be cool, but always open to other areas.

I’m sure Yellowfin would be able to inform us! Help?

    Cheers

Is a late reply to this thread, but if you’re ever in need of some company whilst out in said boats, PM me :-)

Hi all, spent the newyear period based at the family bach in Port Levy(returning this weekend), & while lifting a pot around Baleine Point(headlands of Port Levy)encountered what I beleived to be a Yellowtail Kingfish

Nah, they haven’t been seeded yet, we had the same idea during chrissy and was quite dissapointed :-)

Yeah thanks for that, like a lot of places Port Levy used to have a lot different fish in abundance, including Salmon on occasion, hope the mussel lines help bring some back, some decent sized Rig were taken whilst we were there though. Guess it depends what youre after, many people think you cant catch a decent fish within 20 miles of the harbour. During the warmer months at least there are the Kingies only minutes from the ramp! Any idea if anyone has had any luck with them?

Sea conditions not flash whilst over there, but hooked something from the jetty using a sabiki rig(baited with mussel)
