Can anyone tell me where I can buy a strong sand spike rod holder with some decent length. All the ones I have seen in local shops are cheap and flimsy and not much more than 1m in length.
I thought about trying a local engineering firm to see if they could make one up but don’t know how expensive that would be.
The Ultimo Supreme is 1.5m long. I typically purchase the cheap sub $20 Chinese ones because they are one of the easier items to leave behind. The metal is a bit soft but they work.
Also possible to make a cheap and strong rod stand out of a Warratah and PVC pipe.
I’ve been using the ryoshi ones from te warewhare for the last 3 years, you can drill holes through them to attach to a warratah with wing nuts and bolts if you want more height. I have also put a bit of hose on the tops of mine to avoid wear gainst the rod butt.
another option is to get hold of the gas lift from an old office chair and use this in lieu of the PVC pipe, they are alloy and a heck of a lot more durable than PVC
i make them myself ive got a couple of different ones my ones hold the butt of your rod about 1200mm from the ground there made from stainless and cost about 70 bucks for the standard one and flasher one is about 120 (its a rod holder , a gaff and a eel spear) will post some pics tomorrow
yea isaw some holders in fishing mags ajnd on telly that hold the butt of the rod up real high so u nearly have to reach above your head to get them outa the holder. i can see the advantages of using these on shallow beaches such as 90mile etc but on the steep shingle beaches around eg birdlings etc i dont see the need for one so long as the waves arent really that far of land so its not to hard to keep your line above the breaker as apposed fopr beaches where the breakers are 100m out still
