    Has anyone done much fishing at the saltwater creek in Timaru? are there tench? have caught some pretty big perch in there biggest was 8 pound

    fished there a couple times by the rowing club on rothwell st but got nothing.

    its better above the bridge on state highway 1 to much weed around the rowing club

    went down to saltwater creek this afternoon got 4 perch biggest 3lb :grin:

    fished Saltwater creek again this afternoon got 5 perch 3 small ones and a couple around 3lb, plus lost one that was slightly bigger.

    what do ypu use for lures on these fish?

    I was using gulp minnow softbaits but perch are pretty aggressive and will hit almost any type of lure.

    yep they are edible. found the one I took from saltwater creek tasted slight earthy but have had them from other rivers and they where very nice a lot better than Trout.

    I didn’t think the best eating fish would come out of salt water creek lols
