The salmon are here – or a few at least. There have been at least two caught at McIntosh’s in the past week, a 10 and a 12 pounder. The one in the picture was caught by Jonathan Penrose in early December in the Rakaia River. Great work catching an early fish.
A great day on the river … a fresh Chinook Salmon.
Thanks Scott Hunter from The Fishermans Loft for the line spooling and knots. Also Calvin for the powder coated Zeddie. Photographs courtesy of Jonathan Penrose.

Fishing for salmon in the surf at the mouth of Canterbury’s Rakaia River during the annual salmon fishing competition in 2015. Salmon are caught in the surf as they gather off the river mouth before running the river.

This salmon was taken on a black Zed spinner at McIntosh’s Rocks, Waimakariri River, during February 2017. More picture here McIntosh’s Rocks 2016-2017 (scroll down for the latest pics).
