Cheers huntz n fishes nz20/06/2010 at 3:48 pm #15628
Telling someone a paua spot is a little different to telling them were to go for a fish!
Kaikoura although not araound chc but only 2 hours away can easily fill your quota every trip, akaroa aswell from what Ive heard but I think you would need a small boat/dinghy as hard to anyway due to limited access. Also amberly beach if you head north toward where te beach meets the cliffs is another spot by 4WD.
TBH I cant think of anywhere around chc.23/06/2010 at 9:28 am #15629
around the island at wainui, that you can walk onto at low tide(its at the farthest place you can acess easily, up past the salmon warf ) is a good place lots of fun gathering paua and spearing moki and butter fish all round that one island. hav also caught a few cod off there ( both red and blue )24/06/2010 at 6:37 am #15630

I know we used to get a few up around gore bay. don’t forget to pop in to Mfish and pick up one of their handy platic paua knife/measures.29/06/2010 at 10:13 pm #15661
tumbledown and te oka bay.. alot of the bays over Banks Peninsula.
Wainui by that island,
if you can get the right conditions gore bay, manuka bay etc..
Best bet would definaltely be a day trip to kaikoura though, They’re just more plentiful up there and generally easier to find legal ones.30/06/2010 at 6:38 am #15667
