Participantim not too sure maybe a silver lure/spinner would work like you would in fresh water for salmon/ or a whole pilchard suspended under a float

Participantotherwise fishing in the harbour with maybe 30lb line 3 3/0 hooks of 4/0 hooks with something like shellfish pillie bonito squid or mullet for bait could pick up other various species off some wharves or something,

ParticipantIn Dunedin’s Otago Harbour they catch most of the salmon on dead sprats fished from the wharves. You can catch the sprats (small fish see: https://fishingmag.co.nz/deepsea-sprat.htm) with a second lighter rod and small bait flies. You are allowed to use two rods in this instance. The locals also get the salmon with paravanes and lures trolled behind boats near the harbour entrance. During summer some of the boat guys get salmon up to 20 lbs nearly everytime they go out. Ask at Ellios in South Dunedin, or Hunting and Fishing. They will show you how to set up your gear to get a salmon. Yellowfin

ParticipantHey AndyJD have you fished off that boulder bank at the mouth of the harbour? or even off that beach? Is it Aramoana? I had a look out there when I was last in Dunedin and I was fully hangin out to fish it.Looked nice and deep and looked pretty promising for blue cod and maybe Moki around the kelp.Maybe some good sharks to be had on that beach if you are into that
