This is a great surfcasting contest. It is always very well run. Tip: some spots on the beach are better than others. Always good prizes. These guys picked a good fishing spot at Nape Nape https://fishingmag.co.nz/surfcasting-skate-boys.htm

So does this mean you would pay $40 if you had two rods?11/01/2008 at 6:09 pm #9896SevengillzParticipant
How far from cheviot is Nape Nape?11/01/2008 at 6:40 pm #9897
yup $ 40 for 2 rods zac.
about 20 -30 mins from cheviot I think sevengillz. easiest way would be to turn off at domett and head for the hurunui mouth.11/01/2008 at 6:45 pm #9898
St_Paul, are you going to fish the Dorie competition? Post if you get any info on that11/01/2008 at 8:32 pm #9899
I think the dorie one is open only to working mens club members who are part of the fishing section. unfortunately I haven’t joined a club yet11/01/2008 at 8:37 pm #9900I might have to join the club then17/01/2008 at 6:34 pm #9948

the guy that won it last year with a conger was only a short fella. target species to win would be congers, skate, large rig, and sevengillers.18/01/2008 at 12:22 pm #9957
may be a diff year then18/01/2008 at 3:33 pm #9958MiliwolfParticipant
I would prefer to see separate prizes for the biggest of each individual main species.
Because in these comps a New Zealand Record Moki would probably lose to fairly average congers and 7gill sharks.18/01/2008 at 3:40 pm #9959
Just looked at the forecasts for Motunau which is nearby – at the moment it looks like the sea might be a18/01/2008 at 4:41 pm #9960

Hey miliwolf what site did you use for that forecast? swellmap is showing 1-1.5m swells at hurunui mouth which is closer than motunau
