Doing some reading and came across a piece that said mackinaw ( great lakes trout) had been released years ago in canterbury lakes.

Nowdays lake pearson is the only surviving population , has anyone targeted them or heard of any catches?

Those thing get massive like the tekapo canals fish.

Have targeted and caught brook char from a Canterbury lake, but never Mackinaw. Heading down for another brook char fish when the lakes open, if I have time might also check out Pearson.

The South Island trout fishing guide by John kent says the Mackinaw have never done well and rarely reach 1kg (Peason is to warm, and lack of food at depth). Pearson holds mainly browns with a few rainbow.
