Ive heard a few guys on here talking about keeper hooks, was wondering how useful these are and how i and where you attach them to you rig? also what size hook i should use?11/03/2008 at 8:06 am #10430MiliwolfParticipant
I use them from time to time, not a huge fan of them but my technquie might not be the best.
I typically leave the second hook free sliding on the trace above the main hook, if my main hook is around 9/0 in size my keeper would be around 4/0 or maybe even 3/0.11/03/2008 at 9:14 am #10432
Same as set as Milwolf for me .
Be careful when unhooking a fish when you have a keeper hook on the rig as the other hook always seems to get you11/03/2008 at 9:29 am #10433SevengillzParticipant
I used to use keepers quite often when fishing from the shore in the sounds.Running rig with free sliding keeper.Generally 5/0 main hook with 2/0 keeper.A keeper pays off when theres a few pannie snapper about and it is usually the hook that does the damage.Rather than using keepers I now just use the trace line and loop a half hitch over the top of the bait and I reckon that presents the bait a little better.12/03/2008 at 9:54 am #10435
