I have heard a couple of mentions on forums about surfcasting in the Hampden area.
I have been there myself when i was very young, about 6-7 so don’t know much about the place.
Whats it like? [what species are around, fish numbers, beach specs]
I’ve fished Hampden beach for the last 5 years with varying results, its handy to home for me.I’m not sure why fish congregate there as its just a sandy shallow beach, if the tide isnt right you have to wade in balls deep to cast behind the break, but when it fishes well it’s worth the discomfort. I’ve caught elephant, rig, grey boys, skate, kahwai etc & seen 7 gillers landed as well.I dont go there till later in the season (mid november) & usually only on calm evenings, breakout sinkers & squid for bait seem to do the trick.
Yeah plain old squid is like the black and gold toby of surfcasting it may be cheap to get and often frozen but it certainly works, stays on the hook well to
