KeymasterHere is a good 12-pound rainbow caught in Ohau A. The second picture is of the unusual soft bait that it was taken on.

KeymasterPlenty of anglers travel to the canals from Christchurch just for the day or weekend. If you can stay for a week you can try out different places and methods.

KeymasterLogan Ahlfeld with massive big old hook-jawed brown trout from the Twizel Canals. What a ripper of a fish.

KeymasterMark Webb, manager of Central South Island Fish & Game, checking fishing licenses at the Ohau A Canal. Much interesting info can be had by doing so. Such as the numbers of anglers who travel to the canals from the North Island regularly, and even from Australia!

ParticipantWas up at the canals yesterday lots of manky/spent salmon around. fished at Ohau C wall and could see them swimming in schools of around 15-20 fish but they where still pretty hard to catch. biggest I caught was about 10lb didn’t see many silver ones caught.

KeymasterI’ve seen spent salmon in the Tekapo Canal near the bridge just up from the salmon farm. They would be resting almost motionless near the bank, looking almost dead, but then slowly swim back towards the middle of the canal when you approach the bank. I haven’t seen them in the Ohau Canals but they must be there I guess. Manky salmon do look a bit disturbing!

KeymasterHere’s a really big rainbow jack from Ohau A. It weighed an ounce or so short of 35lb.

KeymasterAllan Burgess releasing a good size rainbow trout in the Ohau A canal.
The second pic is a fat rainbow hen taken in the Tekapo Canal Stilling Basin by this Christchurch angler on a Tasmanian Devil. An old lure that casts and catches trout very well, even in the canals. Mind you the Stilling Basin is probably more like a still water, at least in parts.Attachments:

Participantwent to the canals today. fished at Ohau B and C, was pretty slow overall but then we didn’t get there till about 8.30 and buy that time is was already pretty hot. Nothing caught at Ohau C cought a Few salmon around the dam wall at Ohau B but nothing huge, something interesting to note some of the Salmon we caught where already starting to colour up not really dark but more of a bronze colour, kept one about 5lb that was gut hooked still had red meat but starting to turn white near the tail..
