I no you guys are catching lots of fish on crab bait, now what i would like to no is how you prepare them for the hook, do you use the meat only and are they cooked or uncooked, thanks19/12/2011 at 2:32 am #19861MiliwolfParticipant
These a few different ways, but the smaller crabs I use whole. I get the hook and push it through the leg joint and out through the belly of the crab, I then wrap the legs around the shank of the hook with bait elastic. For larger crabs I cut them in half and rig them the same way… Rigs just love them.19/12/2011 at 3:02 am #19863DuckmanParticipant

If there are sealice about , or the crabs are munching your baits “in which case there probably aint many rig out there feeding , but you never know when they will come along” I will use a small whole crab , or half large crab , baited as millie suggested , but a keeper hook slips thru 1 leg and thru the bait elastic binding the legs back down the line
Most of the time I remove the legs and shell …..use half a crab , or 2/3 if its a small one …this is deadly on the ele’s , which is what I target ….rig is bycatch
