Crab Bait

    I no you guys are catching lots of fish on crab bait, now what i would like to no is how you prepare them for the hook, do you use the meat only and are they cooked or uncooked, thanks

    These a few different ways, but the smaller crabs I use whole. I get the hook and push it through the leg joint and out through the belly of the crab, I then wrap the legs around the shank of the hook with bait elastic. For larger crabs I cut them in half and rig them the same way… Rigs just love them.

    cheers mili, ive been using prawns with no luck so will try crab

    If there are sealice about , or the crabs are munching your baits “in which case there probably aint many rig out there feeding , but you never know when they will come along” I will use a small whole crab , or half large crab , baited as millie suggested , but a keeper hook slips thru 1 leg and thru the bait elastic binding the legs back down the line

    Most of the time I remove the legs and shell …..use half a crab , or 2/3 if its a small one …this is deadly on the ele’s , which is what I target ….rig is bycatch
