Photographs of yellowtail kingfish caught off the Canterbury Coast. Here are a few to get started. This first one was caught a few years back during the Canterbury Open run by the Canterbury Sport Fishing Club. The weight would have to be around 30 pounds making this an impressive kingi. There have been more kingfish caught in Canterbury in recent years as the sea temperature has increased. However, few boat anglers in this region specifically target them. They are big powerful fighting fish that are unlikely to be caught by simple bottom fishing with baited hooks used for other species.
