I am looking at buying a new rod and i am just looking for some advice. I am looking for a good rod around 12 – 13 foot and a max cast weight or of around 5 or 6oz and i would prefer a 2 peice and line weight of 12 or 15kg. i was looking at this on trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=88852879&permanent=026/02/2007 at 9:08 pm #7724
It all depends how much you want to spend.
if ya can try and get yer hands on the rod before buying, you want to make sure it has a fairly stiff butt section if you want something to increase casting distance, the best way to test this is to put the butt on the ground and hold the join in one hand, lean on it a bit and see how much it flexes too much flex means it wil not cast distance well.26/02/2007 at 9:11 pm #7725

If i was wanting to spend the $300 – $400 on a rod i would get a kilwell powerplay but since i am not wanting to spend that much i am looking at something around the $100 range26/02/2007 at 9:35 pm #7728
And what was so bad about the penn powerstick you had?27/02/2007 at 7:57 pm #7731
powerstick was heavy and bent thru to the butt, loss of power when powering into the cast.
I was really lucky to get my powerplay so cheap, would not have paid $300 for a rod either.
I also have an okuma solaris which is also a great rod.
have you had a look at http://www.tackletactics.co.nz27/02/2007 at 8:15 pm #7733
