In the author’s own words this is not intended to be either a definitive or professionally compiled bibliography. However, Paul Corliss has done a brilliant job of creating a bibliography that will more than satisfy any collector of New Zealand fishing books. To my knowledge, it is the first and only bibliography of New Zealand angling. It would have taken an immense amount of painstaking effort and considerable time to produce.
Written in a breezy and down-to-earth style the book covers a host of related subjects including: authors, book values and availability, condition, not to mention seven useful appendices: Overseas publications, Sources, Acclimatisation Societies and Fish and Game Councils, New Zealand dealers in secondhand books, Common abbreviations and descriptions found in book catalogues, and New Zealand freshwater angling clubs.
I suspect this book will hold a special place in the collections of many New Zealand anglers. Of particular interest are the brief notes on the values of all the hundreds of books included. This book is a must for all collectors. Allan Burgess.
