Asburton Man Wins Big Prize

Gary Sullivan from Ashburton won the big prize of a four wheeler and trailer in the Major Prize Draw held at the end of the 2008 Rakaia Salmon Fishing Contest.

Almost several hundred salmon were caught during the first two days of the event. Organizers decided to cancel fishing on Day Three as a result of the river being in spate following steady rain which started on Thursday night.

The heaviest salmon caught during the event was taken by John Wellman. It weighed in at 10.9 kg (23.9 lbs).

The heaviest trout was caught by Neil Watts. It weighed 4.44 kg (9.7 lbs)
